Simple Happiness

I’m a simple girl at heart and I’m currently seeking to find joy in all the small things I can. So this prompt is easy and I can think of five things from just today that brought me joy.

  1. My Coffee Maker! Seriously! I programed it the night before and woke up to fresh brewed coffee ready for me! Ok maybe it was nice that I didn’t have to make it myself back when my wife lived here and did it, but she woke up three hours before me. I forgot how much better it is when it’s fresh!
  2. The trees are blooming outside my windows! It’s spring in Brooklyn and so many beautiful things are outside! I sit in the window and sip my coffee and admire the new growth on the trees in awe of how nature keeps doing this year after year.
  3. Impromptu Lunch Dates! I was making myself lunch waiting for my friend to bring her kid to play with my kid when she said she was on lunch break too. I invited her to share my salad and we had a lovely meal together while our children played. Unloading life’s burdens on each other, everything is easier to carry when you share the load.
  4. Old Friends! A woman I went to college with is staying with me. I hadn’t seen her since we graduated thirty years ago! And I’m so grateful to the internet and the pandemic for the ways it brought us back together and can have these experiences where we connect and find each other again.
  5. Park Picnics! In Brooklyn the pizza delivery guy will come into the park and call you to find you. Lucky I speak a little Spanish because it was hard to find him, but then I heard “la musica” both through his phone and the air and went past some dancing millennials to find him holding our still so hot pizza! And after some good food and some wine we snuck in we danced to the music provided by a nice man with a good speaker and good taste! It was a perfect day, spontaneous and full of joy!
